Movie Review: Puss In Boots

A prequel to Puss's adventures with Shrek and Donkey.  I wonder how long it will be before we have Donkey's movie?

Plot:  A story about the events leading up to the sword fighting cat's meeting with Shrek and his friends.

'Tis The Season To Be Jolly

And boy was I.

Must say it was a rather good gathering.  At least this time we were able to get basic spirits instead of beer, wine and soft drinks.

Georgie and I were fairly matched the entire night.

Work Gala

I had a wonderful time tonight at the Gala.  I've worked there 11 years but have never gone to before.  I'm not one for dressing up but thought I should go as it might be my last chance.  I have seriously been thinking of quitting to travel around the world for a year or so.

I had borrowed a hip flask to take my own alcohol in with me as they weren't serving any spirits.  Conrad assisted me several times to top up my drinks (both as lookout and barman) hehe.

Tom, I don't know how many times I told you that we haven't won lotto and Holly, that was a nice spill you took on the stairs.  Thank god you didn't do a Britney and not wear underwear!! *huge grin*

I only just got home a few minutes ago and am waiting on my photo's to upload onto Facebook.  I know there will be quite a few sore heads tomorrow, I mean later today.

Movie Review: Real Steel

Hugh Jackman in fine form.  Need I say more??

Plot:  Set in the near future, where robot boxing is a top sport, a struggling promoter feels he's found a champion in a discarded robot. During his hopeful rise to the top, he discovers he has an 11-year-old son who wants to know his father.

Movie Review: Footloose

I was a bit young the first time this came out and even though I am an 80's child, I haven't watched the film until recently.

Thankfully it sticks closer to the original than a lot of remakes that they are doing at the moment.  We get a bit more background on why 'Ren' comes to be living with his relatives, it's not so clear in the original movie.

Plot:  City kid Ren MacCormack moves to a small town where rock 'n' roll and dancing have been banned, and his rebellious spirit shakes up the populace.

Work Sundowner

Just walked in the door from the Sundowner after work, dropped everything in the doorway and hightailed it to the toilet.  I had been busting since Cass and I left My Place.

We had free drinks for 3 hours so long as it was beer, soft drinks or sparkling wine.  Georgie and I both only like sweet wine so we decided to sweeten ours by adding lime cordial - much better than the dry crap they were serving us. I lost count after our fifth bottle.

Movie Review: The Green Lantern

Phwoar!!! Ryan Reynolds is hot in this.  Didn't particularly like him before, but I've changed my mind.

Who am I to say no to a free ticket to a movie??  Chook and I caught up to see this.  If there's a sequel, I'll be going!

Plot:  A test pilot is granted an alien ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe.

Movie Review: The Help

My sister has recently separated from her husband and deserved a night out.  We started with dinner at Sizzler's, then went to see this.

We both were in tears when 'Minny' shared her story of the 'Terrible Awful'.  We could not stop laughing the whole way home.

Plot:  An aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s decides to write a book detailing the African-American maids' point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis.

Farewell Dan

This weekend was my last chance to catch up with Dan before she leaves next week for Georgia.

We went for a roast lunch at my mum's place and my nieces were there.  It was quite funny because they were all shy around her when they normally aren't.

Movie Review: Hanna

I had a couple of hours to kill while my car was being serviced so decided to see this.

Saoirse Ronan was scary in this.  A big departure from her role in The Lovely Bones (which I still liked even though the book was so much better)

Plot:  A 16-year-old who was raised by her father to be the perfect assassin is dispatched on a mission across Europe, tracked by a ruthless intelligence agent.

She Got It

Dan got the job!! She just rang me to let me know.  She flies out at the end of the month and is going to Georgia in Europe to teach English for 10 months.

I am going to miss her :(

Movie Review: Bridesmaids

This is why I don't want to be a bridesmaid..  All the hassle!!

Funny movie though.  Nearly wet myself over the bridal shop bit.

Plot:  Competition between the maid of honor and a bridesmaid, over who is the bride's best friend, threatens to upend the life of an out-of-work pastry chef.

Xmas In July

Dan and I decided to go for a drive down to Rockingham to check out the shops.  Neither of us have been there in ages and it was a relatively nice day, until it started raining after we got to Rockingham.

It's looking much better now that they have almost finished renovating the place.

We both managed to pick up a couple of gifts we needed for the party we were going to in West Perth.

Back at my place we spent the afternoon scanning Dan's documents for the job she was applying for to teach English in Europe for 10 months.  I have a feeling she is going to get it.

We then got dressed for the party, luckily it wasn't fancy because it was freezing outside.

I've been to the house once before for a bbq but never went inside.  I've not been to a party where you're name has to be on the guest list which the security guy checks before you're allowed in.

We played a different kind of pass the parcel game.  We each were given a gift, but we were 'allowed' to swap it for another gift if we chose - take the gift off another person - but it wasn't guaranteed that we would get to keep that gift because someone else could elect to swap their gift.  There was a very popular Jenga game that was swapped several times.

Back From Bunno

Had an awesome time down in Bunbury with Belinder, Heather and family.

I'm still a little shocked that Bel is now with Heather, it just seems so sudden considering Heather had been in a long-term relationship and had only recently broken up with her partner.  I worry for Bel because Heather was spending a lot of time on the phone with her ex while I was there.

Off to Bunno...

Heading down to Bunbury for Izabella's birthday and to catch up with Bel and her new partner Heather.  I can see a lot of wine & cheese in my future...

Movie Review: Kung Fu Panda 2

Took the 2 older nieces, Casey & Kyla to see this today.  It was their first time seeing a movie in 3D and they kept taking the glasses off and complaining when their eyes hurt.

Love the animation movies nowadays as they aren't just targeted to children anymore, there are some adult jokes in them also.

They look ready to crash after all the sugar we've just eaten, but now they're settled in on the sofa lounge watching Scooby Doo cartoons.

Plot:  Po and his friends fight to stop an peacock villain from conquering China with a deadly new weapon, but the Dragon Warrior must come to terms with his past.

Movie Review: Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows (Part 2)

OMG!!! So excited!!!  I can't believe it's finally here!!!!

It feels like I have been waiting for this to come out for years.  Wait a sec.  I have been waiting for years!! LOL!!

I was so pumped up for the midnight screening last night but wasn't sure how I was going to get through work on 2 hours sleep!  Let's just say that by lunch time, I was trying to find a little corner to hide.

Overall I was impressed with the movie.  The only thing really that let me down was the fight scene between Harry and Voldemort and the aftermath.  It was nothing like it was in the book, which I think ended it much tidier than just breaking the wand in half.

Plot: Harry, Ron and Hermione search for Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes in their effort to destroy the Dark Lord.

Birthday Dinner

Thank you Dan for a lovely evening.  Very enjoyable dinner at Oscars, the desserts were lovely & the wine, gorgeous.

Thanks also to Bel who didn't even ring or text me to tell me you weren't coming even after you had RSVP'd.

Movie Review: Fast And Furious 5

I have to say that I am not a fan of Vin Diesel, but these movies suit him.  Am a fan of The Hot Paul Walker and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.  Now either of them can pop my hood any time *grin*

I took the time to watch all the previous movies (although I'm still a little confused on Tokyo Drift) just so that I would know the back story.

I wasn't happy when the projector fritzed during the fight scene between The Rock & Vin Diesel so all sound was lost.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the movies and cant wait for the 6th in the series - coming out in 2013 I think.

Plot:  Dominic and his crew find themselves on the wrong side of the law once again as they try to switch lanes between a ruthless drug lord and a relentless federal agent.

Movie Review: Thor

Marvel comics is really churning out the movies at the moment.  We've had both Iron Man movies (which I've not seen), the X-Men movies and now Thor.

Chris Hemsworth plays arrogant well.  It's good to see him being successful after Home & Away.

Plot: The powerful but arrogant warrior Thor is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard and sent to live amongst humans on Earth, where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.
