New TV

I had to buy a new tv today because the old one has started to make a high pitched noise which is driving me nuts!

I now own a 51cm LCD flat screen and I also updated my VCR so I now have a VCR/DVD combo. The old one was only a 31cm tv so it will take some time to get used to.

Movie Review: The Devil Wears Prada

A pretty decent movie in all. I especially liked bad boy Christian (Simon Baker) and good guy Nate (Adrian Grenier). Both were very easy on the eye! ;)

Plot: In the dizzying world of New York fashion, where size zero is the new 2, six is the new 8, and a bad hair day can end a career, Runway Magazine is the Holy Grail. Overseen with a finely manicured fist by Miranda Priestly – the most powerful woman in fashion – Runway is a fearsome gauntlet for anyone who wants to make it in the industry. To make Runway the fashion bible of New York and therefore the world, Miranda has let nothing stand in her way…including a long line of assistants that didn’t make the cut. It’s a job no self-respecting person can survive, yet it’s an opportunity a million young women in New York would kill for.

A stint as Miranda’s assistant could blast open the doors for recent college graduate, Andy Sachs. More college drab than haute couture, she stands alone among the small army of “Clackers” on staff at Runway – super slim fashion divas checking their stilettos down the halls of the magazine’s Manhattan headquarters. But when Andy comes in for the job, it dawn on her that making it in this industry will take more than drive and determination.

And her ultimate test stands before her in head-to-toe Prada.

Miranda can spin the fashion world like a basketball but has a devil of a time finding and keeping a good assistant. Andy is completely wrong for the job. But she has something the rest of them don’t: she refuses to fail.

To become the perfect assistant, Andy will need to make herself over in Miranda’s image. Soon, much to her boyfriend’s dismay, she can talk the talk, walk the walk and never again confuse Dolce with Gabbana. But the more of life she sees through Miranda’s eyes, the more she begins to grasp that Miranda’s world is a fabulous but lonely one – and that sometimes great success depends on great sacrifice…but at what cost?

What A Game!

I woke up around 7am but then rolled over and went back to sleep, thinking I would get up in another 1-2 hours and get set to watch the game.

The next time I looked at my clock I thought it was 10.30. I looked again and it was actually 1.30! I had missed pretty much the first quarter.

I watched until the last quarter then headed out to do some shopping & listened to the last quarter on the radio... I'm glad I wasn't watching it at home because I would not have been able to bear it! The siren couldn't come soon enough - what with the Swans coming to within 1 point a couple of times in the last 10 minutes!

But it is great that the Eagles have finally won another Grand Final after last year's disappointment.

Good on you boys!!!

Footy Finals Fever

Well, we're almost there again... another Grand Final.

I watched the last quarter of the Eagles vs Adelaide game - what a finish! Hopefully the Eagles will be able to convert their good form and win this year.

I might head up to my local to watch & cheer them on!

Go Eagles!!!

Hairdresser Catastrophe

After I returned from my holiday in Melbourne, I tried to make an appointment with my hairdresser but the phone had been disconnected. The next day, on my travels in that area, I called in to see what was happening only to discover that it was closed for renovations. At this point I wasn't concerned because they had done this before.

Anyway, I called in again today to find out what is happening and she has gone! My hairdresser has gone!!

Now I have to try and find another hairdresser that I like & one that doesn't charge too much!

Not happy Jan!!

Knitting Pattern Help

I am having trouble trying to find a couple of knitting patterns so thought I would post here in the hopes that someone may be able to help.

I am trying to find a tight fitting beanie pattern for a man and one of those beanies with the ear flaps that have become popular in recent times.

I'm only a beginner so only wanting patterns done on 2 needles and using 8ply wool.

Sitting On Babies

I babysat last night for Ace and his wife, even though he said he would never leave me alone with his kids - don't know why really, I only suggested that he lock them in the boot of his car so he could clean up the house! I even said I would bring my own hammer and rope (to get them off to sleep & to stay in their beds) *evil grin*

Now, those who know me, know I'm not a 'kid' person and would be shocked that I would subject myself voluntarily to this type of torture. I am not maternal or clucky - never have been and never will be - screaming kids and crying babies are my worse nightmare.

I settled myself down and watched tv. Not 10 minutes after they left, they were back again. Ace's wife came back to change clothes as she was wearing a costume, but was sent a message that nobody else had bothered to get dressed up- and then they were off again.

I was watching my Harry Potter dvd when I became aware of someone standing next to me - it was Ace and a friend - dropping in to pick up some more alcohol because they had run out at the party and the bottle shops were closed as it was midnight.

It was after 3am when they finally arrived home and by the time I got home it was 4am.

I didn't even have to get my hammer or rope to keep the kids in bed! :)

Movie Review: Hoodwinked

I've been waiting for this movie after seeing the preview a couple of months ago. I wasn't disappointed. It is very cleverly done. You can't help but love the squirrel! *grin*

Plot: It all begins as a feathered and furry assortment of cops and detectives turn up at Granny’s cottage in the woods to answer a domestic disturbance call. It looks at first to be just another open-and-shut case of a woodsman assaulting a wolf impersonating a granny, with an assortment of criminal charges including breaking and entering, intent to eat and wielding an axe without a license.

But looks can be deceiving. As debonair detective Nicky Flippers and hard-nosed Police Chief Grizzly and fellow police officer Bill Stork question the slippery suspects, they discover each one has a completely different, yet equally wild and woolly, tale to tell. Not only that, but it seems that this crime has ties to the notorious “Goody Bandit” who has been ravaging the woods by stealing the valuable recipes that keep the forest in muffins.

None of the group is exactly what they seem, and each has their own deep secrets and wily deceptions. The detectives soon uncover that seemingly innocent Red is worldly wise; that the big, bad Wolf has been terribly misunderstood; that Granny has a secret life no one could have imagined; and that the insecure Woodsman, whose brawn just might outweigh -- well you know the stereotype – has some surprising ambitions of his own.

They’re not your usual suspects – yet the investigators must use their clashing eyewitness accounts to solve the increasingly convoluted riddle of who among them has committed a crime. When at last the nefarious villain’s true identity is revealed, it’s up to Red, the Wolf, The Woodsman and Granny to put aside their differences and find their own original twist on happily ever after.
